KFWD is an independent television station in the Dallas/Fort Worth market, the fifth largest DMA (Designated Market Area) in the United States. KFWD is independently owned by HIC Broadcast, Inc. with shared services provided by Belo Corp., one of the nation's largest pure-play, publicly-traded television companies, that owns and operates 20 television stations (nine in the top 25 markets) and their associated web sites.

KFWD signed on in 1988 as a Telemundo affiliate. When GE/NBC bought Telemundo and KXTX, KFWD became an English programming station. In 2005 KFWD began a joint sales agreement with WFAA.

KFWD now emphasizes an (all entertainment/family friendly lineup) including: The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Dr. Oz Show, The Insider, rebroadcasts of WFAA's award winning news, classic syndicated shows, and more.
